Senior Localism - What is it?

An interesting aspect of senior “localism” is that proximity to family and friends becomes of even greater importance especially so, when the concept of locale might be a major metro or rural community. In each case there is some distance to be considered when trying to find each other. Even if is just to know they got home safe or if they need assistance in transit.

GTX Corp and its LOCiMOBILE subsidiary develop and market smartphone applications and other 2 way GPS tracking solutions that allow subscribers to locate one another on Google maps and provide - point to point directions, TXT messaging, photo attachments and a host of additional services to reduce the location process to a single click of a button.

Additionally and of no lesser concern is privacy. The information shared between those requesting and allowing locates is theirs alone. Nothing is shared with any third party for any reason.

Alzheimer's Patients Who Wander away from their homes

Here’s a shocking statistic we found on www.gpsshoe.com 60% of Alzheimer’s patients wander away from their homes or care facilities at some point. Half of those who aren’t found within 24 hours end up severely injured or dead. Here’s another shocker: By the year 2050, there will be 16 million adults with Alzheimer’s in the U.S. alone. Which means 3 million mothers, fathers, siblings, neighbors, grandparents, and friends could go missing.

According to Professor Andrew Carle, it’s actually harder to find a missing senior citizen than a missing child. Why? Because when a child’s all alone, it seems odd, so passersby pay attention. However, adults with dementia, Alzheimer’s, or schizophrenia often look normal, and may simply be overlooked. Edward Rochford, the sheriff of Morris County, New Jersey, says that even with 50 rescue workers searching, it can take more than eight hours to find a missing person. Which is way too long for a senior citizen who may be frail, disoriented, or need medication.

One mobile connection for every person in the world by 2015 and every connection is 2-way.

Cisco predicts that by 2015 there will be 5.6 billion mobile devices and 1.5 billion separate machine-to-machine nodes. Coincidentally, global mobile data traffic will grow 26 times between 2010 and 2015, to 6.3 exabytes–a billion gigabytes–per month, according to the latest report from Cisco’s Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast. Additionally, fully two-thirds of all mobile data traffic will be video by 2015, the report predicted.

There are now more than 60,000 native apps for the iPad tablet. Apple adds that consumers downloaded 7 billion apps in the last year alone – LOCiMOBILE”S 2 way GPS TRACKING APPS among them – and one can only wonder what that number might become with video as an option. Check-in at GTXCorp for an answer to the “where is…” it’s happening question.
